About This Website
Thanks so much for visiting and for being interested in learning more about this site and about the sports world in China.
A little bit about me: From February 2005 to June 2006, I directed a sports journalism program at the Cheung Kong School of Journalism and Communication at Shantou University in Shantou, Guangdong, in the People’s Republic of China. In July 2006 I moved to Beijing to work for Tiyuhuabao (体育画报), the Chinese edition of Sports Illustrated (the Chinese name translates as “Sports Pictorial”). I moved back to the United States in September 2006 and since then I’ve written several U.S.-based feature stories for the magazine, including cover stories on the U.S. Open tennis tournament and the Magnificent Six Chinese tennis players who took the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour by storm in 2006; Chinese Olympic legend Lang Ping, the hero of the 1984 Chinese women’s volleyball team that won gold in Los Angeles and now the head coach for Team USA; a story on Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets as they prepared for the 2006-07 season; a cover story on world champion figure skater (and current U.S. public diplomacy envoy) Michelle Kwan; and a feature on Zhao Ruirui, China’s star volleyballer who is in the United States receiving medical treatment with hopes of coming back to compete for the defending Olympic gold medalists in 2008.
