Zhao, as they say even in volleyball, is day to day.

China stuns U.S. in indoor volleyball opener
By David Leon Moore, USA TODAY
ATHENS ― They've all bought in to their coach's rather ingenious systems. That plus their dedication and work ethic have taken them from also-ran status to No.1 in the most recent world rankings.
They've traveled long, sometimes arduous personal journeys to get where they are.
Tara Cross-Battle has dug more balls and received more blistering jump serves than anyone should be expected to. Yet here she is, a month away from her 36th birthday, in her fourth Olympics, this time as a player-coach.
Keba Phipps was a starter on the U.S. Olympic team way back in 1988 as a teenage prodigy, then got kicked off the team shortly thereafter for drug use. Now, after one thing or another kept her off the national team for years, she's an Olympian again at age 35.
There's setter Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, who took a year off from volleyball when she got pregnant and conceived a son, Jordan, 18 months ago. She came back to the team three months after delivering her child and she now carries a hand towel with Jordan's likeness on it during matches.
And there's outside hitter Logan Tom, who in the most recent big international tournament ― the World Grand Prix ― was such a force she was named MVP even though the U.S. women finished third.
They all could have and did expect more than the thud of Saturday night's Olympic-opening loss to China, which ran circles around the USA much of the night and, cheered on by a large Chinese fan contingent, cruised to a 3-1 win (25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18).
It kind of sapped the happiness right out of Cross-Battle, who has been an inspirational leader for the U.S. team since helping lead the Americans to a bronze medal in 1992 in Barcelona.
"I didn't really think about it until you reminded me," a dour Cross-Battle said after Saturday's loss when asked about stepping on the floor in her fourth Games. "Yeah, it is a special feeling considering it's my fourth and probably my last Olympics.
"I just didn't think about it much. I'm just concerned about helping this team any way I can, on and off the court."
It needs it. The team was flat and out of kilter during portions of the match, with the Chinese offense hitting on quick sets and combos and the U.S. defense a step slow.
In the grand scheme, it may mean nothing, as the U.S. could still emerge from pool play just fine. Yet, China, the former No.1 team in the world, which fell to third in the rankings that came out Aug.1 after the World Grand Prix results, unquestionably dealt a blow to the U.S. women.
How will they respond for their next match, Monday against Germany?
"I don't know right now," U.S. coach Toshi Yoshida said. "I have to find out. All I know is we have to stay positive. I know they're disappointed."
Tom, perhaps the team's best all-around player, thinks they'll be fine.
"I know I'm fine," she said. "And, shoot, if they're not fine, I'm gonna make 'em fine, because we've gotta win."
The last time these teams played, the U.S. women did win, taking a 3-0 victory July 29 that sent the Chinese tumbling to a fifth-place finish in the Grand Prix.
What was the difference Saturday?
"Last time, we had more of our system going on," Tom said. "Tonight, we kind of beat ourselves. We just have to focus on ourselves."
The Chinese, a major contender for the gold here, lost their 22-year-old middle blocking sensation, Zhao Ruirui, early in the first set after she further injured a stress fracture. Zhao, as they say even in volleyball, is day to day.
Then again, isn't everybody?
The U.S. team is certainly waiting to see who it will be Monday.
"This one rattles us a little bit," said Ah Mow-Santos, "but we still have a chance. We've just got to move on to the next one."
One thing nobody questions on this team. It's made up of players who know how to keep on keepin' on.
Earlier in the day Saturday, Germany surprised three-time defending gold medalist Cuba in five sets and Russia breezed by the Dominican Republic in three. In Pool A, Brazil beat Japan, host Greece defeated Kenya and Italy beat Korea ― all in three sets.
Each team plays the five opponents in its pool once, with the top four finishers in each group advancing to the medal round. The men's competition begins Sunday.
