Wang Jie Nets First SWATCH-FIVB World Tour Medal [/COLOR]
Modena, Italy, May 14, 2006 - The Beach Volleyball community and fans will get know Wang Jie as she and Tian Jia secured a bronze medal here Sunday at the US$200,000 Play Station Portable Italian Open on the Foro Boario centre court.
Seeded 22nd with Tian Jia, Wang Jie secured her first SWATCH-FIVB World Tour medal as the Chinese rallied to defeat fourth-seeded Rachel Wacholder and Elaine Youngs of the United States to share the $16,000 third-place prize. The Americans earned $12,000 for placing fourth in the first of 15 women's events on the SWATCH circuit.

The bronze medal was Wang Jie's first on the SWATCH tour in 10 starts. After playing one event in 2002 and eight in 2003, Wang Jie did not participate international as Tian Jia competed with her Olympic partner Wang Fei to place third on the 2005 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour points standings and a bronze medal together at the SWATCH-FIVB World Championships in Berlin.

Wang Jie's best previous finish was fifth in the 2003 SWATCH opener in Rhodes where she finished fifth with Linjun Ji, who placed 41st this week with Wang Lu after losing their first match to a team from Germany.

The reigning Olympic and World Champions, May-Treanor and Walsh will be seeking their 22nd SWATCH-FIVB World Tour gold medal in Sundays second match when the Americans face Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca of Brazil, who captured the womens Italian Open title last June in Milan. Sundays winners will split the $32,000 first-place prize.
Juliana and Larissa, who captured the SWATCH points title last season in their second-year of play together, advanced to the finals with a 21-13 and 21-15 win over Wacholder and Youngs. The Brazilians will be seeking their second win against May-Treanor and Walsh as the Americans hold a 6-1.
Round two on the womens SWATCH-FIVB World Tour will be staged May 24-28 in Shanghai where the men open their international season a day earlier. The SWATCH circuit returns to Europe May 31-June 4 in Athens (women) and Zagreb (men).
